Clackamas County, Oregon

Clackamas Location Map Oregon

Clackamas County stretches from Portland’s suburban fringe to the snowy peak of Mount Hood. It’s where urban hipsters and rugged loggers rub elbows. If variety is the spice of life, Clackamas County is a five-alarm chili.

The Clackamas River rushes through its heart with world-class kayaking and fishing. You can grab a latte in Oregon City (the state’s first capital) in the morning and ski at Timberline Lodge by noon. Farm stands are all along the countryside, bursting with berries in summer.

Mount Hood National Forest occupies the eastern half, providing timber, recreation, and habitat for critters big and small. The county’s western edge hugs the Butte Creek and Pudding River, home to swanky riverfront homes and blue-collar industry. And let’s not forget Estacada, the “Christmas Tree Capital of the World”… because even Santa needs a supply chain.

PHYSICAL MAP

Clackamas County Topographic Map

The elevation changes are wild here. Western Clackamas is low and flat, part of the Willamette Valley. But to the east, it climbs fast into forest, foothills, and then the slopes of Mount Hood itself. This makes it one of Oregon’s most topographically diverse counties.

Mount Hood steals the show in the northeast. Snow, ridges, lava flows. It’s all visible from above. Further west, the land flattens and fills in with farms, suburbs, and timber tracts. Oregon City, Canby, and Lake Oswego all add pockets of development, but the eastern half stays green and rugged.

OUTLINE MAP

Clackamas County Blank Map

Clackamas County looks bulky but stretched, like it’s leaning east toward the mountains. It borders the Pudding River and Butte Creek for a short stretch in the west. There’s no out-of-state boundary, but the eastern edge climbs right into the Cascades. That jagged line on the east? All mountains.
