Here’s Vermont, plain and simple. Just the county lines and labels, no extras. Clean, compact, and easy to read… like the state itself.

Vermont Counties
The Green Mountain State has a mix of landscapes. It has rolling hills, dense forests, and a bunch of lakes and rivers. Each county has some pretty scenery no matter where you go.

For people, Chittenden County is the most populous because it’s home to Burlington. It’s also the state’s largest city but it only has about 45,000 people in total. Essex County is the least populated. It’s way up in the northeast corner, mostly forests and small towns.
Most Populous: Chittenden County
Least Populous: Essex County
Size-wise, Windsor County is the biggest, covering about 971 square miles. It has a mix of farmland, forests, and some popular ski areas. The smallest county is Grand Isle County, which is basically just a couple of islands in Lake Champlain.
Largest Area: Windsor County
Smallest Area: Grand Isle County
Vermont’s counties have been around for a while. The oldest ones, Bennington County and Cumberland (which doesn’t exist anymore), were set up back in 1779 when Vermont was its own republic. Yeah, you read that right. Vermont was independent for 14 years before joining the U.S.
