Delaware County Maps
When it comes to counties, Delaware keeps it simple. We’re talking just three counties here, folks. That’s right, three. It’s like Delaware looked at the whole county thing and said, “Eh, let’s not overcomplicate this.”
Delaware Counties
New Castle County has the largest population. It’s where you’ll find Wilmington, the state’s largest city. This county has a split personality. It’s part urban, part rolling farmland. Now, scoot on down to Sussex County at the southern end of the state. It’s the largest in area but the least populous. Here, you’re more likely to bump into a chicken farmer than a corporate bigwig.

Finally, Kent County sits right in the middle, both geographically and for population. It’s home to Dover, the state capital. It’s where lawmakers gather to… well, make laws, I guess… It’s also where politics and NASCAR somehow coexist peacefully.
Delaware’s county lines have been pretty much the same since 1683. That’s right, these three counties are older than the United States itself. When William Penn was divvying up his new world holdings, he carved out New Castle, Kent, and Sussex from the southern part of Pennsylvania. The names stuck, and so did the boundaries.
From the beaches of Rehoboth in Sussex County to the historic New Castle Court House, Delaware’s counties each play a part in the First State’s story. You’ve got the DuPont legacy in New Castle County, the agricultural heart in Kent County, and the beach towns of Sussex County.
