Franklin County lies at the heart of Ohio, home to the state capital of Columbus. It’s a hub of politics, education, and culture. The Ohio State University dominates the northern part of Columbus, which is one of the largest universities by enrollment in the United States.
You can’t miss the iconic statehouse downtown. It’s a beautiful example of Greek Revival architecture. The county has a thriving food scene. From German Village to the North Market, there’s always something delicious to try. Art lovers come to the Short North district for its galleries and monthly Gallery Hop.
The Columbus Zoo is one of the best in the nation. It’s located just outside this county to the north. Franklin County is crisscrossed by major highways, making it easily accessible. With a population over 1.3 million, it’s the most populous county in Ohio. There’s always something happening in Franklin County… especially its NHL team, the Blue Jackets.

Franklin County is the highway hub of Ohio. Interstates 70 and 71 cross at downtown Columbus. I-270 circles the whole county. Though traffic is constant, roads go everywhere. With our zoom tool and road map below, you can find every interchange, highway, and overpass.

I’ve never seen anything like this. I actually had to recheck to make sure the satellite image was correct. You can see how the city of Columbus dominates the middle. Highways, neighborhoods, and rooftops pack in tightly. Scioto and Olentangy rivers run through. Though suburbs expand fast, farmland still clings to the edges.
