US Counties

When it comes to counties, Delaware keeps it simple. We’re talking just three counties. Kent County, New Castle County, and Sussex County.

Florida, the Sunshine State, has 67 counties in total. From the Panhandle to the Keys, these counties serve up a smorgasbord of landscapes.

Georgia, the Peach State, is carved up into a whopping 159 counties. It’s like they took the idea of local government and went nuts with it.

Hawaii’s county situation is about as laid-back as the state. 5 in total. It’s more like they threw some lines on a map and called it a day.

Idaho has 44 counties, which is a lot for a state most folks can’t find on a map. Idaho has more counties than Nevada but fewer than Oregon.

Indiana has a total of 92 counties with a pretty straightforward layout. It’s mostly flat in Illinois with some rolling hills tossed in.

Kansas is home to 105 counties, a number that places it near the top in terms of county count across the United States.

Kentucky is home to 120 counties, making it one of the the highest number of counties in the U.S. It’s second to only to Texas and Georgia.

You might be surprised to learn that Louisiana doesn’t actually have counties. Instead, it’s divided into 64 parishes.

Maine is up in the northeastern corner, divided into 16 counties. It’s a place of rugged coastlines, dense forests, and rolling hills.

Maryland has 23 counties and one independent city. From the Chesapeake Bay to the Appalachian Mountains, Maryland’s geography is diverse.

Massachusetts is divided into 14 counties. However, four of these have been abolished as functioning government entities.

Michigan has 83 counties, which might seem like a lot for a state shaped like a mitten. It’s actually on the higher end for counties.
