You’ll find a mix of small towns and rural areas here. Gunstock Mountain Resort offers skiing in winter and hiking in summer. The county’s named after Jeremy Belknap, a clergyman and historian.

This county is hilly, especially around the lake. Elevation varies quickly. Though mountains aren’t towering, there’s no shortage of climbs. The Belknap Mountains rise near the center. Lower elevations hug the water. Slopes give way to pockets of flat land. It’s not all wilderness because towns often sit in valleys. It’s rugged, but accessible.
