Blair County, Pennsylvania

Blair Location Map Pennsylvania

Blair County is right in the middle of Pennsylvania, surrounded by the Allegheny Mountains. Altoona is the main city, which grew up as a major railroad town. These days, it’s home to the Railroaders Memorial Museum and the famous Horseshoe Curve.

Outdoorsy types love it here. There’s hiking in Canoe Creek State Park and boating on Raystown Lake. Fall’s gorgeous, with the mountain slopes bursting into reds and golds.

Tyrone is another cool little town to explore. But Hollidaysburg is the county seat. Visitors should check out the Baker Mansion in Altoona as it’s a piece of 19th-century life. The area has deep roots in iron-making too.

Blair County is all about elevation. Long mountain ridges slice through it from northeast to southwest. Valleys lie between, carving narrow paths through the hills. The western part flattens slightly, but the rest is steep and folded. This is one of Pennsylvania’s most rugged-looking counties.
