Franklin County, Virginia

Franklin County is in south-central Virginia. They call it the “Moonshine Capital of the World” because it has a colorful history of illicit liquor production.
These days, it’s better known for its stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Smith Mountain Lake, a massive reservoir, draws tourists and retirees.
The county seat is Rocky Mount. Farmers grow everything from tobacco to Christmas trees here. Outdoor recreation is a big deal. The Booker T. Washington National Monument preserves the birthplace of the famous educator.
