Isle of Wight County, Virginia

Isle of Wight County isn’t actually an island, despite what the name suggests. But it is a piece of coastal living. You’ll find it in southeastern Virginia, across the James River from Newport News.
Smithfield is the county seat and is famous for its ham. The county’s history goes way back. It was one of the original eight shires of Virginia. Today, Isle of Wight balances its agricultural roots with new development.
The southern part of the county is still largely rural. Up north, you’ll find growing suburbs. Water is a big part of life here. The James and Pagan rivers have great fishing and boating. Locals are proud of their schools and low crime rate.
