Jefferson County, New York

Jefferson County is at the top of New York state, where the St. Lawrence River meets Lake Ontario. It’s a place of islands, lighthouses, and military history. Watertown is the county seat, which buzzes with a mix of urban amenities and small-town feel.
The Thousand Islands region is a paradise for boaters and fishing. Visitors also enjoy the Tug Hill region for hiking and world-class snowmobiling. You can’t talk about Jefferson without mentioning Fort Drum, home to the 10th Mountain Division.
The county has deep ties to the War of 1812. Sackets Harbor is a village on Lake Ontario that played a crucial role in that conflict. The area is known for its excellent cheese with a festival to even prove it.
