Lexington is an independent city located in the western part of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. It lies at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is situated along the Maury River.
Lexington is home to Washington and Lee University and the Virginia Military Institute. Both of which have had greatly influenced the city’s cultural and educational landscape.
The city’s downtown area has historic buildings. Many of them date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Lexington played a key role during the Civil War. It’s also home to the tomb of Robert E. Lee, the famous Confederate general.
