Tama County sprawls across east-central Iowa, named after Taimah, a Meskwaki chief. The county’s home to the Meskwaki Settlement, Iowa’s only federally-recognized Native American settlement.
Toledo, the county seat, is home to the historic Tama County Courthouse, a beautiful structure from the 1800s. The Iowa River cuts through Tama County, including through Toledo.
The county’s population is around 17,000, with farming being a major part of the local economy. The county also features Otter Creek Lake and Park. U.S. Highway 30 runs through it.
