I-87 (New York State Thruway) runs straight up the eastern side. Whereas US-209 slices diagonally through the mountains. Forests blanket much of the county, especially in the Catskills. The Ashokan Reservoir is a wide, dark oval near the center. Small towns like Kingston and New Paltz appear as gray clusters along the Hudson. But most of the view is trees. Dense, dark green, and stretching for miles.
