Catawba County is in western North Carolina, part of the Charlotte metro area. Hickory is the biggest city and it’s famous for furniture making.

If you like German food, you’ll love Catawba County. The county is full of parks and trails. Lake Norman is great for boating. Newton is the county seat.

There’s a thriving arts scene. The Hickory Motor Speedway is known as the “Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars”. You can tour a nuclear power plant here. All in all, the area has a strong manufacturing heritage.

Lake Hickory curves along and probable jumps out first. Hickory itself appears as a dense cluster, surrounded by green. Despite the urban growt, forests fill in many gaps. Although farmland is scattered, the woods take up most of thhe space.
