North Carolina Counties

Alamance County sits in the heart of North Carolina’s Piedmont region. Burlington is the largest city but Graham is the county seat.

Alexander County lies in the foothills of western North Carolina. Taylorsville is the county seat, located right in the center of the county.

Alleghany County sits in the northwestern corner of North Carolina, bordering Virginia. It’s up in the Blue Ridge Mountains area.

Anson County stretches across the southern Piedmont of North Carolina. Wadesboro is the county seat, which dates back to the 18th century.

The Blue Ridge Mountains cradle Ashe County in their peaks and valleys. It’s in the northwestern corner of North Carolina.

Avery County crowns the western North Carolina mountains. It’s home to some of the highest peaks like Grandfather Mountain.

Water defines Beaufort County. It’s located in North Carolina’s Inner Banks region. The Pamlico River cuts through the heart of the county.

Bertie County hugs the Chowan River in northeastern North Carolina. Windsor is the county seat with its historic district.

Rivers shape the story of Bladen County. It’s in the coastal plain of south North Carolina. The Cape Fear River flows along the western area.

Beaches and boats define Brunswick County, located in the southernmost county in North Carolina. The Intracoastal Waterway runs through it.

Buncombe County is in western North Carolina, right in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Asheville is the county seat here.

Burke County is in the western part of the state in the Pisgah National Forest. The Linville Gorge Wilderness is Burke County’s claim to fame.

Cabarrus County is just northeast of Charlotte in the Piedmont region. Cabarrus County is home to the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Caldwell County is located in western North Carolina. It’s right where the mountains meet the foothills with lots of hiking trails.

Water, water everywhere in Camden County. It’s way out on North Carolina’s northeast coast. The Dismal Swamp Canal runs right through it.
