Alexander County, North Carolina

Alexander County lies in the foothills of western North Carolina. It’s small but full of character. The Rocky Face Mountain Recreational Area brings in hikers and rock climbers.
Hiddenite, a rare green gem, was discovered here. That’s why they call it the “Gem of the Foothills.” Apple orchards fill the countryside. Taylorsville is the county seat and has a quaint downtown.
The county has deep musical roots in bluegrass and old-time traditions. You can often catch live performances at local venues. Fishing in Lake Hickory is a favorite pastime for many residents. The Apple Festival each fall brings the whole community together.
