Colleton County sits in South Carolina’s Lowcountry region. It’s a place where pine forests meet coastal marshes. The county stretches from inland farms all the way to the Atlantic.
Walterboro is the biggest town and county seat. It calls itself “The Front Porch of the Lowcountry”. It’s got some beautiful historic homes and a nice little downtown.
The ACE Basin is one of the largest undeveloped estuaries on the East Coast. It covers part of the county and is a sanctuary for wildlife. Hunting and fishing are popular pastimes. The area’s known for its rich African American Gullah culture.
