Decatur County anchors Iowa’s southern tier, bordering Missouri. Leon is the county seat and sits in the middle of the county. The population is about 7,500 with a strong sense of community.

The Thompson River cuts through, creating some surprisingly rugged terrain. Interstate 35 also cuts through the county, making it an easy stop on the way to Kansas City or Des Moines.

For nature lovers, the Little River Recreation Area provides excellent fishing, hiking, and camping. Don’t forget about Slip Bluff County Park for its great views and camping.
