Hand County, South Dakota

Hand Location Map South Dakota

Hand County is right in the middle of South Dakota. It’s named after George Hand, an early secretary of the Dakota Territory. Miller is the county seat in the center of the county.

Farming’s the backbone here. Wheat, corn, cattle. All the usual crops. The county fair in August brings the smaller communities together.

You’ll find some great hunting grounds, especially for pheasants. The landscape is mostly prairie, with gentle rolling hills. Community spirit runs deep in Hand County.
