Harding County, South Dakota

Harding County is way out in the northwest corner of South Dakota. It’s so big in area that it’s larger than the state of Rhode Island or Delaware.
Buffalo is the county seat. Yep, that’s the name of the town. If you’re into history, check out the Slim Buttes battlefield site from the Great Sioux War. It’s east of Buffalo.
The land is mostly grasslands and badlands. But there aren’t many people. Just about 1,300 call it home. Ranching is huge here. Oil too. They’ve got some of the darkest night skies in the country. Perfect for stargazing.
