Lake County, Minnesota

True to its name, Lake County’s got water everywhere. It’s up in northeastern Minnesota, hugging the North Shore of Lake Superior. Two Harbors is the biggest town and it’s also the county seat.
The Superior Hiking Trail runs right through the county. It’s a beast of a hike, but the views are worth it. Gooseberry Falls is the star attraction. Tourists flock there like seagulls to a french fry. But locals know the real magic’s in the backcountry.
Places like Tettegouche State Park, where you can have a whole beach to yourself. Fishing is huge here, both on Superior and the inland lakes. Watch out for lake trout. They put up one hell of a fight. The county’s got some serious mining history too.
