Louisa County, Virginia

Louisa County sits right in the middle of Virginia, about an hour northwest of Richmond. It’s mostly rural, with farms and forests. Lake Anna has shores are lined with vacation homes and marinas.
Locals joke that the county population doubles in summer. The lake’s not just for play, though. It also cools a nuclear power plant on its southern end.
Mineral is the county seat. In 2011, it took a direct hit from a magnitude 5.8 earthquake. Twin Oaks is an intentional community that calls Louisa home. They live off the grid and make hammocks for a living. It’s an odd mix of old and new, traditional and alternative. But somehow, it works.
