Spotsylvania County, Virginia

Spotsylvania County Location Map Virginia

Spotsylvania County is right in the middle of Virginia, about halfway between Washington D.C. and Richmond. The county has seen its fair share of action. Four major Civil War battles were fought here.

But don’t think it’s stuck in the past. Spotsylvania is growing fast, with new neighborhoods popping up all over. The county seat, Spotsylvania Courthouse, is tiny but packed with history. You can’t miss the cannons on the courthouse lawn.

Lake Anna is a big draw, perfect for boating and fishing. There’s plenty of shopping and dining options in the more built-up areas. And if you’re into wine, you’re in luck. There are several vineyards in the county. It’s a place that manages to keep one foot in the past and one in the future.

There’s contrast here. Suburban neighborhoods and shopping centers dominate near the interstate, but farther west, trees and farmland start to take over. Lakes and reservoirs show as deep blue, while fields break up the forest.

Imagine Spotsylvania is shaped like a piece of paper with both ends torn off. Its northern border traces part of the Rappahannock River. Whereas the south side is shaped by Lake Anna. The west and east edges are straight on both sides.

The original cool. Virginia’s 95 counties mix old-school roots with mountain roads with Civil War footsteps. One county’s got peanuts, another has presidents. Some lean country, others lean capital.
