Madison County, Iowa

Madison County, in central Iowa, is probably most famous for its iconic covered bridges, the kind that inspired the novel and movie “The Bridges of Madison County”.
Winterset is the county seat. It’s where you’ll find these historic structures, each with its own story to tell. Winterset is also the birthplace of John Wayne. There’s a museum here to prove it.
