Rutland County, Vermont

Rutland County sits in west-central Vermont, bordering New York. Mountains dominate the county’s western half. Killington Resort draws skiers from all over the East Coast.
The county seat, Rutland City, is Vermont’s fourth-largest city. But it still feels small. Marble quarrying used to be big business here. Now, tourism and agriculture keep things going.
The Appalachian Trail cuts through the eastern part of the county. Lakes and state parks offer plenty of outdoor fun. Fall foliage is a big draw. Winters are long, but locals embrace the snow.
