US Counties

Schleicher County is pure West Texas. It’s where the Edwards Plateau starts to give way to the desert. Eldorado is the county seat.

Scurry County is way out in West Texas. It’s oil country with lots of pump jacks. Snyder is the county seat that’s seen boom and bust.

Cattle country. That’s Shackelford County in a nutshell. It’s in north-central Texas, where the Cross Timbers fade into the Rolling Plains.

Shelby County is deep in the Piney Woods of East Texas, hugging the Louisiana border. Center is the county seat.

Sherman County is up in the Texas Panhandle, bordering Oklahoma. It’s where the sky seems endless. Stratford is the county seat.

The heart of East Texas beats in Smith County. Tyler is famous for its roses. It also serves as the county seat.

Somervell County is in north central Texas, not far from Fort Worth. Glen Rose, the county seat, is known as the “Dinosaur Capital of Texas.”

Starr County sits down on the Rio Grande, right at the southernmost tip of Texas. It borders Mexico to the southwest.

Oil put Stephens County on the map. It’s a square county in north central Texas. Breckenridge is the county seat.

Wide-open spaces define Sterling County. It’s out in West Texas, where you can see for miles. The county’s tiny with about 1,000 people.

Stonewall County sits in northwest Texas and is named after Confederate general Stonewall Jackson. Aspermont is the county seat.

Sutton County sits right in the heart of Texas Hill Country. Sonora, the county seat, is known for its annual Sutton County Days celebration.

The Texas Panhandle is home to the square Swisher County. Tulia serves as the county seat. It’s flat here. Pancake flat.

Fort Worth anchors Tarrant County in North Texas. Arlington has the Cowboys and the Rangers. The county’s growing fast.

Taylor County is in west-central Texas. Abilene, the county seat, is a city with a rich history. Dyess Air Force Base calls this county home.
