Somervell County, Texas

Somervell County is in north central Texas, not far from Fort Worth. Glen Rose, the county seat, is known as the “Dinosaur Capital of Texas.” You can literally walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs here. On that note, Dinosaur Valley State Park is the crown jewel here.
The Paluxy River carves its way through the county, creating scenic spots. It’s one of the smallest counties in Texas, but it packs a punch. Fossil hunting is a popular pastime.
The Comanche Peak nuclear power plant dominates the skyline. Despite its prehistoric claim to fame, the county’s only been around since 1875. Only. It’s where ancient history meets modern Texas.
