Shelby County, Texas

Shelby County is deep in the Piney Woods of East Texas, hugging the Louisiana border. Center is the county seat. Despite the name, it’s not in exactly the middle of the county. But it’s actually pretty darn close.
The county is named after Isaac Shelby, a hero of the American Revolution. Timber is big business here. You can hear logging trucks rumbling down the roads. Toledo Bend Reservoir is nearby and is a fisherman’s paradise.
Shelby County has a slower pace of life. People like it that way. The forests are thick and green. They explode with color in the fall. History runs deep in these parts. You can feel it in the old downtown squares and country churches.
