Worth County clings to Iowa’s northern border with Minnesota. It’s Iowa’s fourth-smallest county by area and one of its least populous, with only about 7,500 residents.
Northwood, the county seat, features a downtown with several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.
Shell Rock River Greenbelt is just outside Worth County in the southeast. Come here for fishing and canoeing opportunities. The county’s name comes from General William Jenkins Worth, a Mexican-American War officer.
