Freeborn County, Minnesota

Freeborn County is on the Iowa border in southern Minnesota. Albert Lea is the biggest town here, built around a lake of the same name. It’s a place that takes its motto “Land Between the Lakes” pretty seriously. There are five lakes within city limits alone.
Fishing is huge, obviously. Ice fishing too, once winter hits. The county’s got this cool mix of prairie and hardwood forests. Myre-Big Island State Park is a great spot to see both. It’s also home to a herd of bison, which is pretty wild for Minnesota.
The county’s got deep agricultural roots. You’ll see plenty of corn and soybean fields, plus some massive wind turbines spinning away. Locals swear by the Spam Museum in Austin in the east of the county. Yeah, that Spam.
