Braxton County, West Virginia

Braxton Location Map West Virginia

Braxton County is right in the heart of West Virginia. The county has a weird claim to fame. Ever heard of the Flatwoods Monster? Supposedly, a UFO landed here in 1952. Locals still talk about it.

Sutton is the county seat with some beautiful old buildings. It’s definitely a place that moves at its own pace. Gassaway used to be a big railroad town. You can still see the old depot.

The hills here are gentle and rolling. In fall, they light up with color. So, slow down and stay a while. It’s also where the Elk and Little Kanawha Rivers meet. Sutton Lake is a big draw. Fishermen come from all over to try their luck.
