Nicholas County, West Virginia

Nicholas Location Map West Virginia

Nicholas County is right in the heart of West Virginia. It’s home to the Gauley River, a white-water rafting mecca. Thrill-seekers from all over flock here in the fall for “Gauley Season”.

Summersville Lake is another big draw with crystal clear water surrounded by sandstone cliffs. The county seat, Summersville, is known as the “Gateway to the Gauley”.

There’s more to Nicholas than just water sports, though. Check out the quaint downtown of Richwood, once the “Ramp Capital of the World”. The county has deep roots in coal mining and timber. You can still catch glimpses of that history today.
