Choctaw County, Oklahoma

Choctaw County sits in southeastern Oklahoma, right on the Texas border. It’s named after the Choctaw tribe, who were forced to move here in the 1830s.
Hugo is the county seat and largest town. It’s known as “Circus City, USA” because it’s the winter home for several circus performers.
The county has a rich cowboy culture. You’ll see plenty of ranches and rodeos here. Fort Towson is an old military outpost, which looks into frontier life. Fishing is big in Choctaw County, thanks to Hugo Lake and the Kiamichi River.
