Claiborne County, Mississippi

Claiborne County sits along the western edge of Mississippi, right up against the mighty Mississippi River. It’s a place where history runs deep and nature puts on a show.
The county is named after William Claiborne, the first governor of Mississippi when it was just a territory. Port Gibson, the county seat, is a town General Grant reportedly called “too beautiful to burn” during the Civil War.
The Grand Gulf Military State Park is a must-visit for anyone and everyone. Alcorn State University, one of the oldest public historically black land-grant institutions in the United States, calls Claiborne County home.
