Clarke County, Mississippi

Clarke County sits in east-central Mississippi, right on the Alabama border. It’s named after Joshua G. Clarke, the first chancellor of the state. Quitman, the county seat, is located in the center.
The Chickasawhay River cuts through the county with some prime spots for fishing and kayaking. You’ll find plenty of pine forests here, giving the air that fresh, woodsy smell.
The county also has a rich Native American history, with artifacts from the Choctaw tribe still turning up now and then. Clarke County’s not exactly a tourist hotspot, but it’s still rural Mississippi life.
