Cocke County sits in the eastern part of Tennessee, right up against the North Carolina border. It has a wild side with part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park within its borders.
The French Broad River cuts through, offering top-notch rafting and kayaking. Newport is the county seat with a nice downtown. You’ll find some of the best hiking trails in the state here. Cherokee National Forest occupies the southeast.
The county has a colorful history, including its moonshining days. Agritourism is big, with lots of farms welcoming visitors. Locals are proud of their Appalachian heritage. The views from some of the mountain peaks are breathtaking.
