Coconino County is in northern Arizona. It’s the second largest county by area in the lower 48 states, but only has about 150,000 people. Flagstaff is the biggest city and county seat.

Lowell Observatory, where Pluto was discovered, is in Flagstaff. Northern Arizona University is also in Flagstaff. Skiing is popular in winter at Arizona Snowbowl. The landscape varies from pine forests to red rock deserts.

The major attraction in Coconino is the Grand Canyon, which brings in millions of visitors each year. The San Francisco Peaks, including Arizona’s highest point, are here. Overall, the county has a lot of public land, including national forests. Navajo and Hopi reservations cover part of the county.
