Des Moines County, Iowa
Des Moines County is located in southeastern Iowa. It’s named after the Des Moines River. But it actually doesn’t flow through the county anymore.
Burlington is the county seat. It’s a historic river town, situated on the western bank of the Mississippi. Back in the day, it was actually Iowa’s first capital city.
Snake Alley, billed as the “Crookedest Street in the World,” winds its way up a steep hill. Take that Lombard Street. Starr’s Cave Nature Center offers hiking trails and limestone bluffs along Flint Creek.
