Houston County, Minnesota

Houston County is the southeastern tip of Minnesota, wedged between Wisconsin and Iowa. It’s bluff country down here. The Mississippi River forms the eastern border, carving out some seriously dramatic scenery.
Caledonia is the county seat, but La Crescent’s the apple capital. They grow some mean Honeycrisps. The Driftless Area missed out on the last ice age, so you’ve got these crazy deep valleys and towering bluffs. Great for hiking, if you don’t mind the climbs.
Trout fishing is huge here. Cold, clear streams everywhere. The fall colors are insane, especially along the Great River Road. Barn quilts are a big deal. Lots of Amish folks in these parts too.
