Vernon County, Wisconsin

The Driftless Area. That’s what they call this part of Wisconsin. Vernon County missed out on the glaciers, so its landscape is all steep hills and deep valleys. It’s beautiful.
Organic farming is big here. Viroqua, the county seat, has a great arts scene. Who’d have thought? Fall is spectacular, with the hills ablaze in autumn colors. Winters can be tough, but there’s great cross-country skiing.
The Kickapoo River winds through, popular with canoeists and kayakers. The area is known for its trout streams. Anglers come from all over. The county is full of hidden gems, like Wildcat Mountain State Park.
