Jasper County, Indiana
It’s easy to overlook Jasper County, but that would be a mistake. This piece of northwest Indiana is where the Prairie State lives up to its name. Rensselaer is the county seat, which is a small town.
The Kankakee River forms the county’s northern border. This river provides some of the best fishing in the state. The Iroquois River winds through the county too, adding some variety to the flat terrain.
Fair Oaks Farms is a major attraction, giving city folks a taste of modern farming. The county is also home to the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area, famous for the thousands of sandhill cranes that stop there during migration.
