Lake of the Woods County, Minnesota

Lake of the Woods County sits up at the tippy-top of Minnesota, right where it meets Canada and a sliver of Manitoba. It’s about as far north as you can get in the Lower 48.
Baudette is the county seat, a town that lives and breathes fishing. The lake itself is massive because it has over a million acres of water and 14,000 islands. Walleye is the big draw, but there’s plenty of northern pike and muskie too. Husky the muskie!
The county’s got more than just fishing, though. Zippel Bay State Park is great for camping and bird watching. Logging is still a big deal up here. You’ll see plenty of trucks piled high with timber. And if you’re into northern lights, this is prime viewing territory. Just bundle up. It gets cold enough to freeze your eyelashes.
