Ohio County, West Virginia

Ohio County might be small, but it packs a punch. It’s way up in the Northern Panhandle, squeezed between Ohio and Pennsylvania. Wheeling is the big city here. It used to be the capital of West Virginia.
The suspension bridge over the Ohio River is a local icon. This place is steeped in history. Check out Wheeling’s Victorian-era homes in the National Historic District. Sports fans should hit up WesBanco Arena to catch a Wheeling Nailers hockey game.
The county has some great parks, perfect for picnics or a quick hike. Oglebay Resort is a local favorite, especially during the Festival of Lights in winter. And if you’re into gambling, Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack is right there. Don’t forget to try some local pepperoni rolls. They’re a West Virginia staple.
