Placer County, California
Placer County runs from the Sacramento suburbs all the way up to Lake Tahoe. Auburn is the county seat. It has a cute town with a Gold Rush vibe.
The population is over 400,000, with much of it centered around fast-growing cities like Roseville and Rocklin. Roseville has a massive mall if you’re into shopping.
There’s also some great hiking in the Sierra Nevada part of the county. Oh, and Squaw Valley (now called Palisades Tahoe) hosted the Winter Olympics way back when.
