Roane County, West Virginia

Roane County is right in the middle of West Virginia. It’s a rural region of West Virginia. Spencer, the county seat, is the only incorporated town. Yeah, you read that right. One town. The rest is countryside.
Rolling hills, forests, farmland. It’s pretty as a picture. The county is named after Spencer Roane, a judge from way back. Hunting is popular here with deer season as almost a holiday. Folks here are independent. Self-reliant. They have to be.
The Little Kanawha River winds its way through the county. It’s popular with kayakers and anglers. Jobs can be hard to come by. But there’s a strong sense of community. Everyone pitches in when times are tough. And man, do they know how to throw a good potluck.
