Sierra County County, New Mexico

Sierra Location Map New Mexico

Sierra County sits in the middle of southern New Mexico. Truth or Consequences is the county seat. Yep, that’s really its name. The town changed it in 1950 to win a radio contest.

Elephant Butte Lake is the big draw here. It’s New Mexico’s largest body of water. Boating, fishing… it’s all happening on that lake. The county has a rich mining history. Silver and gold brought folks here back in the day.

Now, it’s all about tourism. Spaceport America is nearby. Virgin Galactic launches from there. How cool is that? The Gila National Forest covers part of the west. It’s a wilderness lover’s paradise. Hot springs are scattered throughout the area. People come from all over to soak their cares away.
