Stearns County is in central Minnesota and it’s one of the larger counties in the state. St. Cloud is the county seat, which is a hub on the Mississippi River. Farms and lakes dominate the landscape.
The area’s German Catholic heritage runs deep, evident in the stunning churches that punctuate small towns across the county. Granite quarries once fueled the local economy, earning St. Cloud the nickname “Granite City”.
Nature lovers hit the Glacial Lakes State Trail for biking and hiking. Winters are tough here. But Stearns County folks are tougher. They’ve got a knack for making the most of every season, whether it’s ice fishing in January or grilling at the lake in July.
