Kandiyohi County, Minnesota

Kandiyohi County sits in the middle of western Minnesota, where the prairie starts to give way to lake country. Willmar is the big town here, but don’t expect skyscrapers. It’s more like a really spread-out small town with some surprisingly good restaurants.
Lakes are the main attraction. There are over 100 of them in the county. Green Lake is the local favorite, ringed by fancy cabins and resorts. Fishing is extremely popular (of course).
The county’s got deep Scandinavian roots. You’ll still hear some old-timers speaking Norwegian. Farming’s big business. Corn and soybeans mostly, but there’s a growing number of organic farms too. Sibley State Park’s the spot for hiking and camping. The view from Mount Tom is surreal.
