Douglas County, Minnesota

You’ll find Douglas County in the middle of west-central Minnesota. The county has a great arts scene. For example, Theatre L’Homme Dieu puts on great summer shows.
Lakes are the big draw here. There are over 350 of them, no joke. Carlos State Park has some of the clearest water you’ll ever see. Fishing’s huge, both summer and winter. Ice houses pop up like mushrooms once the lakes freeze over.
Alexandria, the county seat, bills itself as the “Birthplace of America” thanks to a controversial runestone supposedly left by Vikings. Locals love that story, even if historians roll their eyes.
