US Counties

Jefferson County is a piece of Big Sky Country in the middle of southwest Montana. Boulder is the county seat, which is a small town.

Judith Basin County is nestled in the heart of central Montana. This rural county is named after the nearby Judith River.

Lake County lies in the western part of Montana. It’s named after Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi.

Montana’s capital, Helena, sits at the heart of Lewis and Clark County. This piece of Montana is in the middle of the state’s western half.

Liberty County is way up in north-central Montana, bordering Canada. It’s an open plains region here with golden wheat fields.

Lincoln County is up in the northwestern corner of Montana, bordering the state of Washington and Canada. It’s about as wild as it gets.

Southwest Montana is home to Madison County, a place where the Old West is still alive and kicking. It’s named after James Madison.

Drive east across Montana, and you’ll eventually hit McCone County. It’s in the middle of the state’s eastern half within the plains.

Meagher County lies in the heart of central Montana. The county’s a mix of ranch land and wilderness with a side of Castle Mountains.

Mineral County is right along Montana’s western border with Idaho. It’s a sliver of land packed with forests, rivers, and outdoor adventures.

In western Montana, Missoula County is where the mountains meet the minds. It’s home to the University of Montana and lots of nature.

Musselshell County is in the middle of Montana. It’s named after the Musselshell River that winds through it. Roundup is the county seat.

Park County is a piece of Montana paradise, just north of Yellowstone. Livingston is the county seat. You might spot a few Hollywood types.

Petroleum County is right in the heart of Montana. It only has about 500 people living here, making it the least populous in Montana.

Up in northeastern Montana, Phillips County is about as remote as it gets. Malta is the county seat, at the intersection of Highway 2 and 191.
